Thanks to you...

you ROCK!!

Jamie

My initiation into the world of rock n'' roll was a real baptism of fire. My first professional gig at age 16 was playing support for the great Jack Bruce in a packed, sweaty night club in Scotland. I was playing clarinet as half of an acoustic duo doing our own originals - Jack was fronting a high powered, rocking 5 piece... Lord knows how we got the gig, I think the promoter was desperate. It was a small club so we all had to share the kitchen as a makeshift dressing room - quite an experience in itself. Our 20 minute set went down surprisingly well thankfully ie. we made it out alive, and the whole experience was seminal in defining my commitment to music...

Up until a year ago I''ve always felt the need to be in a band. Since then I''ve made a total commitment to my solo career and I know that it''s the best decision I''ve ever made - musically or otherwise. I have to admit it''s a little scary at times but the rewards are reassuringly gratifying.

Garfield Drive is a collection of new songs that I''ve written since moving to Cairns in the Tropical North of Australia.

It''s called Garfield Drive simply because that''s the name of the street where the studio was in Brisbane when I recorded it & I thought it had a nice ring to it...

Jamie was born in Gawler, South Australia and soon afterwards his parents, who had been in Australia for just five years made the decision to move back to the U.K.

Jamie demonstrated a prodigious musical talent from a very early age. At age 6 he was given a descant recorder and very soon began playing tunes note for note from what he heard on the radio, his skill soon developed to where he was composing his own melodies.

For his 9th Birthday he was given a clarinet and was privately tutored for two years before entering high school. Throughout his school career his musical abilty was not overlooked, he was always the one picked for the solo in the school choir, the lead role in the school musical and the lead soloist in the school orchestra. He also excelled at sports, becoming the Scottish National Junior Champion at K1 Slalom (white water canoeing) at age 15 and was in the winning team in the U.K. National Youth Canoe Polo Championships in the same year.

On graduating from high school Jamie got a job working backstage in professional theatre where he met a talented singer songwriter, they teamed up and formed a duo landing their first gig supporting the legendary Jack Bruce and his band at a packed nightclub in Scotland.

They went on to form a quartet with two talented German musicians and after rehearsing their original material over a rushed two weeks they played the Edinburgh Festival to rave reviews finishing up with a live performance on Brian Matthews'' Show ''Round Midnight''.

They spent the next several months touring Germany and Northern Europe gigging their original progressive jazz compositions to receptive audiences from Paris to Amsterdam, Hamburg to Berlin.

Their touring culminated in a live 40 minute broadcast from the main National Radio Studio Theatre in Berlin and then recording their only album ''Strange Fruit'' (named after the Billie Holliday song of the same name) at the renowned Bremen-based ''Thein Tonstudio''.

Recent Press Release;

**CAIRNS MUSICIAN TAKES OUT TOP INTERNATIONAL MUSIC AWARD**

Jamie Holden who resides in Earlville is "stoked" to have represented well in yet another International Music Competition...

Earlier this year Jamie placed as a FINALIST (top 4% of over 4,000 nominations worldwide), and a semi-finalist (top 20%) in the United Kingdom Songwriters Competition (https://www.tradebit.com), a Competition open to songwriters and musicians not only from the U.K. but from entries worldwide.

A couple of months later he placed in the TOP 20 and TOP 50 in the 2006 MUSICOZ Awards (https://www.tradebit.com) - for Australian songwriters and musicians.

Then in December 2006 the winners were announced by MusicAid for the INTERNATIONAL MUSIC AWARDS.

For his blues song "Hard to Let Go" Jamie Holden has been voted BEST INTERNATIONAL MALE SOLO ARTIST from among nominations from over 20 Countries Worldwide - including the United States and the United Kingdom.

He was also voted BEST AUSTRALIAN MALE SOLO ARTIST,

Runner-up in the category; BEST AUSTRALIAN SONGWRITER,

and runner-up in the category; BEST AUSTRALIAN COMPOSITION.

Jamie said, "It''s just unbelievable, I always hoped my songs would be accepted as having some level of merit but I never expected for one minute to be voted best Male Solo Artist in the International Music Awards - it''s simply amazing to me, - at first I thought it must be a misprint, it''s got to be wrong, but hey this year has been a bit of a wild ride and long may it continue, as long as people like the music I make, I''ll keep making it - that''s what makes it all worthwhile..."

Jamie will receive a Presentation Gold Disc Award from the Music Aid Foundation and World Wide Media exposure to top music industry professionals via the Music Aid Promotions Team.

Jamie has just completed work on his new album ''Garfield Drive'' which is due for release in February this year.

"Jamie Holden''s songs are exciting, focused and thorough...
Each track contains it''s own unique and expressive structural approach that revolves and evolves around a powerful and definitive melody.

His recordings are professional, the vocals performed with true passion, focus and uncompromising attention to detail".

- Pro review 2006

"WOW! "Hard to Let Go" is a great song! Well written, played and recorded. Great dynamic contrast too. I''ve done almost two hundred reviews since I''ve been on this network to date, and this is one of only a handful of songs I''ve heard that I believe to be a guaranteed "Hit" Song"!

I''m going to check out your site when I finish this review.

Great job and bring it on!".
