Dave Treut was born in Manila, Philippines on March 13th 1979. As a child he moved from New Jersey, to Milan, Italy, and Lugarno, Switzerland. He started to play piano at age 6. He was a shy kid who preferred playing music to being around other children.

Moving home a lot as a young boy, Dave found solace in music, and increasingly retreated into its'' world. After moving back to New Jersey when he was 10, Dave took up the guitar and the drums.

As a teen he was taken with Big Band Swing, and Jazz, citing Thelonious Monk as his first record purchase. Count Basie ,Thad Jones, Elvin Jones, Jack DeJohnette, Miles Davis ,John Coltrane and Art Blakey, soon followed.

Fascinated with drumming styles on big band records, Dave also had a healthy obsession for Led Zeppelin ,The Doors, Primus and Beck.
He longed for a heavy metal jazz https://www.tradebit.comnkfully such obsessions are fleeting.

During high school he would spent most of his time hanging out in West Village bars playing in the late night jam sessions, often returning home just in time to shower and get to his first class. A favorite was The Blue Note where he played with greats such as Roy Hargrove, and Eric Reed.

Dave soon began to work around the city playing mostly free jazz and improvised music. He formed several Downtown Jazz bands and toured the country with them. He has released a drum and bass record with Coppe on the Warp label. He is also featured on a record by Spankrock on the Ninja Tune label which has gained critical acclaim. Treut was also part of the experimental music scene of the knitting factory.
He has performed with Sean Lennon, Butch Morris, Kaki King, Cuong Vu, Tony Malaby, Ben Monder and Tim Berne. He recently wrote and performed in the 5 act "TipBucket Opera" with collaborator Monika Heidelmann. This was performed at the Live with Animals gallery in Williamsburg, featuring a 12 piece band, and the audience as unwitting participants. Dave has also toured and played live on WKCR with Heidelmann''s own band the "Monika H band"

In 2006,Dave spent several months in Brooklyn''s Bushwick neighborhood, he became involved with an artists'' community and was taken with the idea of the "Family Band"; Music that simply felt good and homely- no pretension.

After working on a sound with the folks on Ingraham Street, his friendship with guitarist Chris Parachini led him to create the title track of this record, "Dear Life". He Found his voice, a new way to express himself, in a radical departure from anything he''d previously done .
Dave is passionate about the urban folklore of New Yorks'' musical heritage. On a recent journey with me, Dave pointed out places of historical interest, such as the building where Kool &The Gang made their first record, or an elevator in a warehouse that still bore Basquiat''s original tag "samos".

Dave tells me of his time spent with Jack Kerouac''s erstwhile collaborator David Amram, whose son Adam is a close friend. Dave has a friendly charm and easy manner that belie his intense performances on the microphone. Dave Treut literally sleeps eats and breathes music. Virtually living in a rehearsal space in South Williamsburg, he is constantly writing, performing or dreaming up new ways to express himself.
