Close your eyes: you can almost smell the patchouli and the dust, and the smoke from campfires and incense and other things. You can see the dreadlocked kids in their knitted caps and Miracle Girls in bare feet and swirly skirts. Healthy, sun-drenched people are all dancing to a grooving beat. A smiling face passes you a bottle of that cold bubbly grapefruit wine, and you drink it thirstily, gratefully. Having fun? Now open your eyes. Wow. It''s all still there.

OK, this is happy, fun stuff. If you are looking for bitter, dark reflections, self-absorbed paincentric emo ballads, or death-metal thrash rock, look no further because IT''S NOT HERE. Apparently these guys are sincerely enjoying themselves and want you to be happy too.
How do they do it?
First off, this is a band from Ithaca, New York, which has often been described as "10 square miles surrounded by reality". Even their kids'' friends call them hippies, and you can tell from their sound that they must have spent a lot of time going to shows in the seventies. They play their music on a solar-powered stage, for gosh sake (see their website for a picture)! And you can tell that they have had, and are having, way more fun than most people.
They''re talented musicians, in any case, and their sound is much bigger than you would think to get from a three-member act. Part of this is due to Crow Weaver''s Big Blues resonator guitar style, and his creative layering of ambient sounds and accents in the mix. Part comes from Paul Kimball''s classical keyboard training that has him playing groove basslines "ad continuo" while holding down solos and fills in the midranges and high end. And then there''s Frank Giambrone, a 40-year veteran drummer who always seems to be right *there* when you need him. And some of it is simply that Crow''s voice can really fill a room.
There is very danceable stuff here, as well some more contemplative tracks and a few bits that are humorous or just plain silly. It all adds up to a good time. Light the candles and the incense. Spill the wine and turn up the volume.
