"We''re just wallpaper tonight", is what an old drummer in my band used to say all time. If you listen to the title track here (to your left) it will make more sense.. I am also a great fan of George Harrison. In 1968 he released a soundtrack album called "Wonderwall Music". It had many different styles of music (Although primarily East Indian). A virtual plethora of sounds. That''s where alot of the inspiration for this album came from and the fact that I had so many songs that sounded so different from each other. In the 2 years before I actually started recording "Wallpaper Music" I had written about 25 songs. I started recording the album in August 2001 and finished in February 2002. I usually have a good idea of what an album will sound like before I start recording it. On this one I wanted a lot of "color" and to layer and orchestrate the songs with guitars and vocals. I also wanted the album to have alot of musical landscapes. If you listen closely I focused on many different guitar styles and sounds. For example on "Too Close For Comfort" there is a swirl of chorus-ed electric guitars. Or... at end of "Wallpaper Music" the feedback goes on for quite a while, something I''m sure my neighbors still remember. I play all the instruments and do all the singing except for the sax on the title track and "The Way I Think You See Me" which was played by the great Steve Prazak. So... after 6 months it was finished and released on Feb. 25th, 2002. A set of headphones might help you hear some hidden jewels in the mix.
Some inside information...
The lyrics on "Heart Of A Rose" were written by my Great Grandmother Alice Prescott in 1935. I wrote the music in 2001.
"Taking on Water" was written Dec. 8th, 2001 for George Harrison.
The Chant at the beginning of "Believer" is a Tibetan refugee courtesy of https://www.tradebit.com, also The guitar out-solo is me paying homage to Eric Clapton when he played on "Wonderwall Music" by George Harrison. there''s a certain tone he got on a song called "ski-ing" that''s very unique. I think I got close to it.
The Guitar solo at the end of "Rainbows End" was done in one take.
The cover of the album was painted by the German artist Hans Taeger in 1972
