This is the beginning of the story for Swingset Champion. Right here is where the past trails off to make room for fresh starts and new beginnings, new songs and new melodies.

The Langley based band’s debut album, To Those Who Wait, is a blend of honest pen to paper lyrics and catchy, pop-rock hooks and choruses. Exploring the space between, Swingset Champion leads their listeners on a journey of longing, soul searching, and discovery. “There’s a lot of distance on this album,” says lead singer Paul Zacharias. “Between who you are and who you want to be, where you have been and where you are now, from where you are now to where you hope to be in the future, and the pain of being separated from the people that you love.”

At the beginning of summer 2006, the band consisted of Paul Zacharias (vocals, guitar), his brother John (guitar), and Matt Bender (drums). After solidifying their lineup with the addition of bassist Jesse Giddings that same summer, the band teamed up with well-known Winnipeg producer John Paul Peters (The Waking Eyes, Means, Comeback Kid, Every New Day) to record the new album. Released June 2/07 and full of enjoyable, sun soaked tunes, the album is sure to be a popular listen this summer. Since its rebirth Swingset Champion has been steamrolling forward, building momentum with each new exciting twist and turn along the way.

To Those Who Wait gives an honest look at life being lived. With lyrics such as “I could cry the whole way to work and back/ And no one would even know/ Hold up a sign saying I’m not fine/ But everyone’s glued to their cell phone,” listeners are connected to every day emotions we all experience and embrace. Despite the scattered array of emotions on the album, there is a deeper sense of hope throughout. “Our message is one of peace and love,” says Paul. “Of restoration and hope, and happiness. Being thankful for what your life is.”

Swingset Champion hopes to spread that message to anyone and everyone willing to listen, and with their new release and upcoming tours, that is not a far-fetched goal.

“When you’re hurt or sad, lonely, whatever you’re going through… it’s like breaking a bone in your body. To fix it you have to go ahead and break it all the way before you can set it. Music does that. Music takes you to that point, and breaks your heart even more so you can go through the motions and find healing. It’s always been a dream of ours to be able to give that to other people.”

This is only the beginning of the story for Swingset Champion. The pages are being written as we speak. . .
