Trio-Douze
The musicians of Trio Douze are members of KIBu (League of Composers and Performers of Burgenland, Austria). The group, an ensemble in a unique and uncommon formation: oboe, bassoon and piano, was created in the year 2005 to bring variety to KIBu concerts. Since the majority of the repertoire for this formation was written mostly by French composers like Poulenc and Francaix to name a few, the trio was named “Douze”. “Douze” also stands for the Insitute 12 of the University of Music in Graz which is based in Oberschuetzen, the trio´s artistic home.

BIOGRAPHIES:
Gottfried Boisits, Oboe: Born in 1944. Studied oboe at the Vienna Music Academy, now known as University of Music, Vienna. In 1970-2004, he was a member of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra. Since 2005 professor for Chamber Music in the Department of wind and percussion instruments of the University of Music in Graz. Since the earliest youth he devoted himself to the chamber music. The ensembles to which he belongs to at the moment are the Freiherr von Eichendorff-Bläserquintett, the trio Douze and the Pannonische Harmonie.
Kurt Pfleger, Bassoon: was born on the 5th September, 1956. He studied bassoon at the Music Universities of Graz and Vienna. He played actively in various orchestras and ensembles in Austria. At the moment, he is a member of the Festival Orchestra Mörbisch and teaches at the University of Music in Graz, Institute Oberschützen.
Aima Maria Labra-Makk, Piano: was born in Cebu City, Philippines. She studied piano at the College of Music of the University of the Philippines under Perla Z. Suaco. In 1985 she won the first prize at the National Music Competition for young artists in Manila (NAMCYA). In 1986 she came to Austria to further her piano studies under Prof. Eugen Jakab at the University of Music in Graz, where she earned 1990 her artistic diploma with the highest honours. She is a prizewinner of international piano competitions, such as the International Competition Franz Schubert. She is also a recipient of various scholarships like the Martha Debelli Scholarship and Bösendorfer Scholarship, to name a few. She performs intensively as a soloist and chamber musician in the leading concert halls and has done numerous recordings for radio, television and cd productions. She is the first pianist to record the complete works of the austrian composer, Jenö Takács, which makes her as the leading interpreter of Takács´music. She also teaches at the University of Music in Graz and conducts masterclasses in Austria, Hungary, Philippines and the US.

Francis Poulenc(1899-1963): Trio pour Piano, hautbois et basson
Francis Poulenc was a member of the Group de Six, a movement against academism and for the enlightenment of music. His most important compositions are the Sextet for winds and piano and this Trio for oboe, bassoon and piano. The trio, an early work, depicts for the first time his contemplative side.
Alexander Wunderer (1877-1955): Trio Nr. 1 für Oboe, Fagott und Klavier
Alexander Wunderer was an oboist of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra and composed the known Cantata "Die Jahreszeiten". His compositions, which remind one of Bach and Brahms, is the true evidence of his originality and his ability as a composer.
Theophil-Casimir Lalliet (1837-1892): Terzetto op. 22 for Oboe, Bassoon and Piano
Lalliet taught at the Academie Imperiale de Musique and composed numerous compositions for oboe and English horn. The Terzetto op. 22, is an original piece showing Lalliet´s affinity for Italian music.
Henri Brod (1799-1839): Duo aus Donizettis "Lucia di Lammermoor"
Henri Brod was born in Paris and was an oboist. He later shifted to the craftmanship of instruments, specializing on the development of the English horn. He published a method instruction book for oboe and composed numerous ensemble pieces for woodwinds and piano. The piece on this CD is based on a scene of the first act of Donizetti´s opera Lucia di Lammermoor.
