I have been surrounded by music for as long as I can remember. In living rooms, concert halls and festivals my family would sing and listen to ballads and blues, chanties and mountain songs. As I grew older I began writing some of my own songs, though I never lost a connection with traditional music. The best songs, I think, are crafted from countless smaller pieces from the world around us - streams of music, the local culture, a sense of place, the things we love. My new CD, Bring the Morning Home, incorporates songs old and new, traditional, original and just plain beloved. Most are exactly what you would hear in a concert – a voice and a guitar, autoharp, banjo or dulcimer, and choruses that were meant for singing. All have deep roots in the traditions, places and people I have known and loved. Enjoy the music!

“As a songwriter and musician Dan Schatz proves himself to be a superb talent... His performance as a singer and instrumentalist shine with equal brilliance; he has that unique talent to make the style of the song come through his instrumental performances and create a distinctive mood that clearly comes from his heart.... Each octave on his autoharp has something different to do which underscores his versatility and originality.”

“Dan has made a good start as one of those who will carry on the traditions of progressive folksinging. He can write a solid song that is simple and direct, that people will sing along with. He has a clear, sweet voice, and a gentle, unassuming style of performance that is open and inviting. You should get to know him.”
