Story

Life is about figuring out who we are and where we fit in. As we pass in and out of eachother’s lives, we find and lose little pieces of ourselves. And sometimes, the losses are more meaningful than the gains.

In Andrea Stolpe’s new album entitled, Breaking Even, she reminds us that carving our own path sometimes comes at a high price. Too often we find ourselves settling safely in to the predictable and comfortable. In the featured song, Kaleidoscope, Andrea talks about her past of trying to be everything to everybody, and arriving at that paradoxically vulnerable but empowering realization that continuing the charade just keeps us from discovering the wealth of who we really are.

There has to be more to life than what we are currently experiencing, and that belief echoes through the storytelling of Breathe. When the world seems bent on material gain, sometimes the most we’ve got to show for our efforts are skinned knees and elbows. Life rarely turns out like we plan, but with a little risk and grit, the results can be even more gratifying than we ever could have imagined.

In the song, Love Me Like You Lost Me, Andrea calculates the fragileness of our lives, asking how would we love if we only had one chance. In the wake of a near-fatal car crash, everything that used to matter fades into a reverberating backdrop of moments unlived and love unexpressed. She boldly risks the dangerous question whether we love like we have everything to lose, or whether we’re safely keeping one foot out the door.

With intense vulnerability and everything exposed, Andrea bears the message of passion for life fully lived, albeit rough around the edges. She makes us believe that what still matters to us is what has always mattered to us, and that purpose often reveals itself in the most unexpected places.
