MP3 Andrew King - The Amfortas Wound

Experimental Neo-Folk, heavily influenced by Traditional British sources, ranging from unaccompanied to densely arranged (harmonium, drones and loops)

11 MP3 Songs
FOLK: Alternative Folk, FOLK: Traditional Folk

Details:
A dark selection of vernacular songs, ranging from 18th Century Broadsides, to a Masonic initiation song and heroic examples of Medieval pan-European balladry.

The Amfortas Wound was the product of eight months of intensive sessions at Hunter Barr’s [KnifeLadder] studio in Camden, in which I stripped the album down to only those songs that I felt in some way or other reflected its title and my then aims and objectives, arranging the songs for drones, loops, harmonium and flute organ, with Hunter in charge of the mastering and mixing, additional drones supplied by Andrew Trail and drums from John Murphy. Though mainly recorded in 1999 The Amfortas Wound didn’t see the light of day until its 2003 release on Athanor. This delay allowed me the opportunity to remix and remaster three of the pieces.

"It is an uncompromising and fearless album but one that demands your full attention. Many people may find it barren or too minimalistic however it does exert a strong power and is a singular experience"
Mark Coyle of The Unbroken Circle re: The Amfortas Wound

"And while it may not be to everyones taste it is produced with considerable love and in its own way represents an important point in capturing these songs and ballads for subsequent generations"
