At age six Barry James started piano lessons so he could learn to play the classical music he heard playing on his mother’s radio. Picking up the trombone in junior high gave him a taste for the style and flexibility of jazz music. Then, while browsing a garage sale he stumbled onto a beat up old guitar. Within weeks he was locking himself in his bedroom practicing for hours at a time, skipping meals and worrying his family.
Barry James’ work often brings comparisons to Neil Young and
Radiohead. The new EP builds rich landscapes from layered guitars and loops, while his emotive voice rides effortlessly over the top.
