Composers/Pianists David and Sarah Bilowus along with their seven-year-old son, Andrew, released this original smooth jazz composition, Year of the Cicada in July 2004. The adult periodical cicadas appeared by the millions in the Washington, D.C. area in May-June 2004, where the Bilowus family resides. This particular brood (Brood X) has not appeared since 1987 and won''t appear for another 17 years.

The Bilowus family was awed by the overwhelming buzz in their own backyard and were inspired by this recent cicada invasion to compose an original song dedicated to this natural phenomenon. All three family members worked together to compose, perform, and record the composition which incorporates actual cicada "calls." Sarah S. Bilowus, also an accomplished soprano vocalist, added vocal effects to the song. David Michael Bilowus, known for his exceptionally beautiful impressionistic/romantic style of playing the piano, also includes two bonus tracks from his recording, Forms of the Ocean.

David and Sarah Bilowus enjoy translating the sounds of nature to music. "We are frequently inspired by ''nature''s music'', and thus, we were naturally inspired to capture the cicada sounds in a piano composition as well."
