Details:
Mike Witzel (aka Blackdrum) was born and raised in South Trenton, NJ. In 1988, when Mike was 13, A friend turned him on to Freestyle Music. He started buying records and before long, he was addicted, a ‘Vinyl Junkie.’ Although Freestyle was his first love, eventually his taste evolved.... House, Techno, Hip-Hop, Tribal, whatever he could get his hands on. He was hooked! Over the years, while steadily filling his mother’s garage with crates and crates of records, Mike polished his skills on the decks, spinning in clubs and at parties all over NJ as well as in Philadelphia, New York, and Miami. He also began to produce his own music. In 1999, Mike co-wrote and produced “Freedom” by The Hardfloor Freaks (Blast Records) with his then-partner and long time friend, Mike Mumola. Two years later he collaborated with vocalists Dana Mason and Jair Sultan on a 12" single released on Hot Box Recordings entitled “Tricks on Me / Tribal Love.” In recent years, Mike partnered with Tim Rago of Vertigo Productions to open a full-service Recording and Photography Studio in Hamilton, NJ. It was there he met Jason Batistoni (aka The Voodoo) and where the first ‘magic’ sessions happened that would eventually become The Impulse EP.

Jason Batistoni aka The Voodoo was born and raised on the Jersey Shore. He started banging on pots and pans when he was 5 years old. His aunt noticed that he had really good rhythm for a toddler and convinced his mother to give him piano lessons. Along with the piano, Voodoo couldn’t help but turn anything and everything into a makeshift drumset, and after many years of banging and begging his parents for a real drumset, he finally got his wish and began playing in local bands. His reputation grew as one the best young drummers on the shore scene. In 1999 his friend Mixastopholese exposed him to Drum and Bass and Techno. Bitten by the electro bug, he soaked up as much of the style as he could while writing DnB and Abstract Electro tracks. Then in 2001, he met DJ Joe Pompeo who introduced him to NYC- Style House and Tech House. About 2 years later, he had a chance meeting with Mike Witzel (aka Blackdrum) and they instantly formed a musical bond. They started writing in the studio and a musical partnership was born. Voodoo’s style can be classified as hard and evil. He looooves pounding cryptic drum patterns that take you to the darkest of places in your mind.... and on the dancefloor!
