Details:
JON Weaver III has recorded and compiled a selection of NASHVILLE RAGS published in NASHVILLE, TENNESSEE shortly after the 1897 Tennessee Centennial and International Exposition was held in Nashville celebrating Tennessee’s 100th year of statehood. THE PARTHENON, and a few of the buildings on the fairgrounds were still standing. JON personifies this era and his interest in the happy, frolicking and syncopated rhythms of the ragtime idiom. The recordings are designed to give the listener a sample of the unrecorded sounds of the early TWENTIETH CENTURY music that later led to the early jazz and songs of TIN PAN ALLEY. Jon’s recordings exemplify the early Nashville sounds of ragtime greats such as Charles Hunter, W. H. Petway, Thomas E. Broady and Lew Roberts. Note that JON has included one of his own “classy rags,” THE SUNDIAL.
Ragtime is strongly syncopated in the melody with a regularly accented accompaniment. RAGTIME WAS ORGINALLY PLAYED “AS WRITTEN” and has now become the basis for traditional jazz and improvisation. RAGTIME is the music “that made America great.” THOSE LONG GONE DOG GONE NASHVILLE RAGS are played as written.

JON Weaver III has been performing since the age of 4 and has performed with groups in the Nashville and Middle Tennessee area for the past thirty five years, featuring RAGTIME, COUNTRY, BIG BAND, PARTY STANDARDS and JAZZ since 1977.
