Details:
On After the Apocalypse, singer/songwriter Chris Ellis reprises the arc of lost innocence - from disappointment and despair through ennui and eventual rebirth.

"I''m a cynical romantic," Chris says of his quixotic outlook.

Singing before he could speak, as a teen Chris sang with a folk group in his hometown of Pittsburgh.

"At 13, I was a short, slight kid with a deep voice. Everybody wondered where this big voice was coming from." Chris performed extensively during his high school years and into college, growing into his singing voice and finding his voice as a songwriter.

"I write songs because I can''t fathom the world. When I find my emotions outpacing my understanding, I have to write about it. Even so, I usually find more questions than answers " he says.

At the University of Pittsburgh, sandwiching his coffeehouse gigs between stints as a DJ and reporter at the university radio station, he began to seriously consider a career in music.

"Ultimately, the realities of a musician''s life conflicted with the life that was expected of me. Or so I was told." he says.

Since college, Chris has moved all over the country, pursuing a career in graphic design, while continuing to write songs.

According to Ellis, "I was living outside Philly a few years ago, and I''d finally decided to perform at an open mike night at a local tavern. The morning of the show, the place burned to the ground. I took it as an omen."

A chance move to Nashville inspired him to resurrect his musical career.

In the years he spent there, "I met some very generous and talented musicians," he says.

Now living outside Boston, Chris returned to Nashville to record After the Apocalypse.

Backed by accomplished Nashville session players, including guitarist/producer Jim Gibson, After the Apocalypse showcases Ellis''s folk, rock, pop and country sensibilities.

"My influences are as diverse as the places I''ve lived. Pittsburgh, Louisiana, Houston, New York, Nashville... But I don''t consciously emulate any one," says Ellis.

After the Apocalypse combines Chris''s influences in ten songs that become more involving and more resonant the more you listen, eventually revealing more answers than questions.
