Christine Donovan......... vocalist/performer and a songwriter - truly a soul singer/rock/gospel/blues diva. From the first few notes especially in live performance you know Chris or "Zadie" as her band members affectionately call her can sing! She was born to sing! As a matter of fact she remembers putting on shows for anyone she could as a child...babysitters, captive audiences in long family car trips, ...etc. etc.
A petite, blue eyed https://www.tradebit.com 5'' 3" you would never think she could belt out Aretha or Tina, or sound like she is channeling Janis -- but she does with her cover band Blue Rain in Kingston Ontario. On top of that she has kids! Everyone always asks Chris....how do you do it? She can be singing with the band one moment....aglow and like a star then she''s home washing the bathroom floor! One thing about Chris...she can relate to life...hardship and poverty.
She knows what its like to be a kid and not have much...her parents had very little money, her dad and mom struggled, sometimes having to rely on charity to help feed their family. Chris didn''t have all the pretty clothes....there was a time they lived with cockroaches, little heating, no christmas presents. Those types of experiences helped to make Christime into a person who can overcome adversity and maybe that is what helped her form that deep connection to the blues, and the soul. In time, her family rose out of the hard times with hard work and determination and Chris embraced motherhood with all her heart and all her soul. The music never left her but only deepened and now she''s out spreading her love of it around! She deeply wants to communicate with her audience at an emotional level.
Christine has always been writing her own songs and was encouraged to express her feelings by friends and family and so began to record her songs independently . And so, after her initial "Rain Down On Me" album which is available at CD Baby she quickly followed it up with a 3 song EP after being invited by a producer to work on some of her originals. Her next CD "Lucky Me" and her latest, has been receiving some airplay on CBC and support from some local radio stations in Kingston.
She''s been singing and playing as a solo accompanying herself on guitar in festivals and coffeehouses in Ontario - and currently is working with Blue Rain, singing cover and hoping to eventually bring in the original material.
All her songs are totally original and she writes all the lyrics and music herself. With many more new songs on file, she is hoping to be able to record her next CD in the near future.
Christine''s voice is pretty phenomenal...the ability to put emotion in the song reminiscent of some of the greats....and her knack for creating melody and writing lyrics, strong stage persona and ability to communicate to an audience live make her a broadly talented artist of great potential.
