Growing up in Auburn, Alabama, Cory Sellers has been playing live music since the age of thirteen. He began playing praise and worship at Auburn United Methodist Church. It was here that Cory fell in love with the melodies of rhythmic praise choruses that would have the greatest influence on his music to date. During high school, Cory traveled all over the state of Alabama playing for youth groups in a praise band as well as solo. The summer after his senior year he decided to spend his entire summer leading praise and worship full time traveling from city to city armed only with his guitar. It was during this time that he began to write songs. Cory had a desire to write songs about his faith since he considered it the most important aspect of his life; however, he had a desire to transcend religious boundaries and leave his music open for personal interpretation. Out of this initial phase of songwriting came songs such as "Gotta Get Back" and "Glad". As Cory entered college, he decided to use the same talent he had developed in church to begin playing the Auburn bar and fraternity scene. Cory and his friend Alex Muncie formed the acoustic duo GunterJames. Their inspiration was groups such as Jackopierce and Vertical Horizon. GunterJames played covers from these bands and others as well as originals. The acoustic duo eventually grew to a full band for a short stint; however, with some members graduating from college and moving on, GunterJames came to an end at the end of Cory''s sophomore year. The summer after his sophomore year, Cory went to East Asia on a summer mission project with Campus Crusade for Christ. It was here that he found a unique energy that surrounded him and inspired many of his songs such as "Don''t Forget", "Release Me", and "On My Knees." Upon returning from East Asia, Cory began leading worship at the Campus Crusade for Christ weekly meeting where some 800 to 1000 college students worship. Cory also started playing the Auburn scene as a solo acoustic act and began to develop his own following. Weekly bar gigs in Auburn over the summer of 2002 inspired many other songs of honesty and self-evaluation for Cory as he wrote "Maybe", Who am I?", "Mystery" and "This Side of Ordinary." By the end of that summer, Cory read over his journal of songs from the past five years of his life and decided it was time for others to know his heart, soul, and mind through his songs.

"To me, a song is the product of tapping into a feeling or an emotion over and over. When the song is complete, someone else should feel it too."
