John was born in Nashville, Arkansas, in 1943. He was raised in Silsbee, Texas, and married his childhood sweetheart from Silsbe, Bobby Jo Shepherd, in 1965. They have four children and eleven grandchildren. He has a BA from Lamar University, an MBA from Texas A&M-Commerce, and an administrative certificate from National-Louis University. He was a business manager for NASA''s Manned Spacecraft Center and in industry on the Apollo, Skylab, Viking Mars Lander, Titan Launch Vehicle, Space Shuttle External Tank, CIA and USAF spy planes, CCAPS torpedo, and international satellite and ground station programs. He is retired from industry and teaches English at Belvidere North High School in Belvidere, Illinois. Publish America pubished a book of poetry written by John entitled "A Lifetime of Living," which is sold throughout America and Europe. He wrote the songs on the country album "My Sweetheart Is Sixty." He has served twice as Mormon bishop and has been involved in local and state-wide politics.
