Details:
Collapse Under Eyes is an explosive young band from the town of Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania. Rare is the occasion when one discovers a happening band in the local Northeast PA live music scene, and when a band is found with the buzz going for them in just a few shows something out of the ordinary must be present. With support from their first EP, "Burning Sunset Red," Collapse Under Eyes intends to launch a summer 2004 tour to elevate this buzz into the full-scale roar of disciples abroad.
Early stages of what became Collapse Under Eyes began with Paul Corby Pratt at the Mic, Dan Quinn on the guitar, and Nate Portner ferociously playing behind the drum kit. Under the name Epee, the band performed its first show in April 2003 with guest bassist Brandon Onisick, and guest guitarist Bob Perch. A modest crowd gathered for the evening and within this crowd was Jarrad Barnhart, an aspiring guitar player going through growing pains with his own band.
Fate had its way, and Barnhart''s band disintegrated in the coming months. Jarrad needed a band, and certainly there was a band that would benefit with his talent and dedication. A phone call in July 2003 united Jarrad with Paul, Nate, and Dan. The band immediately started writing with Jarrad. Sessions only reinforced the evident fact that nothing could develop until a permanent bass player signed on. More phone calls did little for the situation until former guest bassist Brandon Onisick came back into the picture. The addition of Barnhart and Onisick gave Pratt, Quinn, and Portner the opportunity they long desired.
To capture fans, the five continued using their time to compose material and record a homemade demo. September of 2003 slowed the band with two members leaving for Millersville University, two hours away from headquarters in Bloomsburg. Writing and recording dwindled down to weekends only, but Millersville also opened the band to more opportunity. A recording of one song, "The Monday Night Epiphany," began to circulate the campus immediately, and it gained college airplay which led to a live, in-studio performance by Paul, Dan, and Jarrad over 91.7 WIXQ.
Fans in need of music packed two late 2003 Epee performances, showing a demand for more material. From this point on the band prepared to go above and beyond, into the realm of professionalism. This band was no longer Epee. This band was growing, and a new name to kick off all future endeavors was appropriate.
Collapse Under Eyes entered MorningStar Studios in January 2004. Their available time over January and February was spent producing the debut EP "Burning Sunset Red." Musically, the disc plays on the complexity of the world at hand. And quite strongly, this EP solidifies everything the band is about, and everywhere that they dream to take it.
