MP3 Danny Allen - Howdy

With echoes of Wilco, Sparklehorse, and Squeeze these abundantly-creative, trippy, odd-ball songs seem to bond dreamy swirls of lush pop with country twang, Beatles pop with modern jangle.. and then some.

Details:
One of the most intriguing facets of Danny Allen''s music is his ability to create an alternate universe - a rabbit hole into which he beckons the listener to follow him down. The first track is a lazy summer afternoon replete with layers of luscious slide guitar and punctuated by lyrics painted in Technicolor brilliance. The street lights are buzzin'' like horseflies in summer. The gutters are teaming with aqua squirrels that are breeching...Rope swings and tires, vultures on wire...Howdy. As the metaphors compound, we begin to see the magical dawning of a new day, or perhaps a new world order? Before you know it you''re swimming in a stream of half consciousness. As the track ends, you hit the back button just to make sure. Ahhh. Nice. Makes you wonder if you''re not seeing this world as you should--either way, things definitely seem more interesting through the eyes of Mr. Allen.

Bottom line, Howdy is simply a great rock ''n'' roll album with substance, style and a cast of characters you can picture meandering about his Hollywood residence. There''s Mary May (in fact she probably will); there''s a child at heart with a mule''s brain; and the loveable loser, Rock ''n'' Roll Eddie, who we all know--Eddie got up again, reached for the stars again, feet on the floor again...he lost his keys again. Say no more. On a more somber note, "Harvey''s Last Stand" introduces us to an affable fellow who pushes the memory of his dearly departed through town in an empty wheel chair. As his story unfolds, we explore the tragedy of what happens when society deems us redundant. Heart, soul and where it goes? Spark, glow, and your favorite clothes, scattered in thrift stores.

In addition to Danny Allen''s innovative guitar riffing, the sound track to this audio film is provided by the multi-faceted drummer / percussionist / xylophonist, Mich Kink-with a style that is simultaneously sensitive and aggressive, precise yet quirky, Mich is a one-of-a-kind talent. The record was produced and engineered at Stanley Recordings by 2003 DIY Producer of the Year, John Would. From the big Spaghetti Western production of Crawl the Line to the graceful slide ukulele of Mulehead to all out rock bombast, Monster, John''s treatment of these songs demonstrates the perfect complement to Danny''s vision. John also picks up the instrumentation where Danny and Mich left off (bass, slide guitar, keyboards, etc). The musicianship alone is enough to impress, but Howdy proves to be so much more.

At once big and not big, smart and intentionally not smart, Howdy is the authentic, thoroughly original first solo effort by Danny Allen...enjoy.
