A performer and teacher of Yiddish music, Frumi Cohen and her sister Susan Cohen-Dickler released an album of Yiddish songs for children entitled UNDZER YIDDISH [OUR YIDDISH) which enjoyed radio exposure on The Barry Reisman Show, WXPN and on New York stations as well. The Workman''s Circle reissued UNDZER YIDDISH on CD because of its popularity.
Lyricist, composer and librettist, Frumi Cohen is a two time recipient of the grant fellowship for playwriting from The Pennsylvania Council on the Arts. A member of the BMI Lehman-Engel Musical Theater Workshop (NYC), her musical, A SHOW OF HANDS, enjoyed a three-month run at The Thirteenth Street Repertory Theater (NYC) and won the 1997 Festival for Contemporary Musical Theater along with works by Melissa Manchester and Kurt Vonnegut. She is presently working on a musical about budding singer-songwriters for The Philadelphia Theater Workshop and also an adaptation of Weslandia, by Paul Fleischman, a Newberry award-winning author of the popular children’s book published by Candlewick Press.
