Some people refer to it as "groove rock". The Dan San Band likes to think that their style of music is totally unique yet strangely familiar. They specialize in blending modern rock with classic r&b, jazz, blues, and even reggae. It''s sometimes rockin'', sometimes bluesy, sometimes chill, but always entertaining.

The self titled debut CD from the Dan San Band contains ten diverse songs with a sound influenced by classic Stevie Wonder, Steely Dan, The Doobie Brothers, The Police, Bruce Hornsby, Dave Mathews Band, Ben Folds, and Billy Joel. The band combines funky Fender Rhodes riffs, jazz/funk bass lines, rock drumming, and power-pop guitars with Dan Sanfilippo''s smooth, melodic vocals for a totally unique mixture of sounds. The lyrics to these songs are catchy, fun, whimsical, and intelligent and Dan delivers them with passion, soul, and clarity. Pop this CD in your car on a nice day, turn it up and sing along to your heart''s content. It never gets old.

"Livin'' It Up" is a funk-rock throwback that sets the tone for the album with a syncopated rhythm, steady Wah guitars, James Brown-esque keyboard riffs, and fat bass licks. The lyrics explain the origins of the Dan San Band sound, one that can''t be defined by "corporate bananas" and record execs. It is a sound that is refreshing when radio is bombarded by "the usual, usually the same-old same; trial sized and styalized for instant fame, these days".

Dan Sanfilippo was born in 1977 in Staten Island, NY. Dan spent most of his childhood on the Jersey shore and grew up near Bruce Springstein''s home town in Howell, NJ. At age 8 he started taking piano lessons and at age 15, Dan started writing songs. By the time he was 23, he had recorded two albums of original music. "Lost and Found" and "Starting Over" included some material that the Dan San band still performs today including the song "Lose You" which he wrote at age 17. Dan went to the University of Cincinnati where he studied Industrial Design while touring the Midwest with the successful cover bands Inertia and Elysian Field. After moving to Springfield, MA for a career in game design, Dan played with Zoo Station (a U2 tribute), and the Tom Ingram Band, and helped to form the band Days End with fellow coworker/musicians Darrell Merino, Jim Pagano and John Tomulonis. Days End recorded one full-length CD and had many successful shows in the Springfield area from 2002 to 2003. When Darrell Merino and Jim Pagano left the band to pursue other things, the Dan San Band began to take shape. With the remaining members of Days End, a newfound love for the Fender Rhodes, the addition of Chris Kozak on bass, and the help of talented friends like Tom Ingram, Dan is extremely excited to lead the Dan San Band to success.

John Tomulonis was born in 1969 in Derby, CT. His first memories as a child are of playing paradiddles on pots and pans. John is constantly drumming and he brings a real energy to every song he plays on. He hit the music scene with the 80''s hair metal band Nasty Magic and played with various cover bands in the New England area. John was a co-founder of Days End and has contributed to many aspects of the creative songwriting process for the Dan San Band, most notably, penning the lyrics for "Embrace the Change".

Chris Kozak was born in Holyoke, MA in 1975 and started playing bass when he was 11. Chris majored in music and is an accomplished jazz and rock bassist. Some notable bands that Chris has played with are the Rapid Symphony, John Losito and the Funky Folks, Charlie''s Blues Band, Pocket Full of Funk, the Tom Ingram Band, the Rob Zappulla Orchestra, Amherst Jazz Orchestra, and many various local jazz and rock acts on a freelance basis. Chris is the newest member of the Dan San Band and has taken the band to a new level of funkiness.
