MP3 Dave Isaacs - Prodigal Son

A musical parable, literate and soulful, drawing from deep and diverse roots across the spectrum of American music.

9 MP3 Songs
ROCK: Americana, FOLK: Modern Folk

Details:
Dave Isaacs'' hook-laden melodic sensibility and evocative, cinematic lyrics are driven by a dynamic sense of rhythm and a wide-ranging vocabulary that draws from influences across the musical spectrum. Prodigal Son, his first solo recording, represents the most coherent and fully-developed expression yet of a deeply personal style that defies easy categorization. A classically-trained musician with an advanced degree in guitar performance from New York City''s Manhattan School of Music, Dave turned his attention to songwriting when repetitive strain injury interrupted his pursuit of a career as a classical concert guitarist. The rehabilitative process and accompanying soul-searching led Isaacs to a commitment to find his own artistic voice, expressed through the eloquent simplicity of American roots music.

Recorded in Nashville and New York with a cast of guest musicians including fiddle virtuoso Peter Hyrka (Gypsy Hombres) and steel guitar wizard John Widgren (Victoria Shaw, Western Caravan, Commander Cody & his Lost Planet Airmen), Prodigal Son''s nine songs on themes of relationships, family, and redemption range in tone from exuberant rockers to haunting, classically-influenced chamber folk. Isaacs'' resonant baritone voice is complemented and supported throughout by his formidable instrumental prowess on acoustic steel- and nylon-string guitars, electric guitar, and mandolin, demonstrating the versatility and refined musicianship of a seasoned session pro.

A natural performer with a commanding stage presence, Isaacs has performed on stages large and small both as a solo artist and as leader of the acclaimed country-rock band Jackalope Junction. The quartet has shared billing with such country and roots music luminaries as Rhonda Vincent, the Flatlanders, Commander Cody, Chris Hillman & Herb Pedersen, and Leo Kottke, opened arena shows for Martina McBride, Steve Miller, .38 Special, and George Thorogood, and performed for thousands of Woodstock Nation faithful at the 2000 Yasgur''s Farm reunion. The band''s 2001 release Just Drive received an enthusiastic reception from print and internet media, with positive reviews in Music Row Magazine, All Music Guide, and Independent Songwriter Web Magazine among others, while Americana and country radio programmers at 150 radio stations across the US, Europe, and Australia added the CD to their playlists or into regular rotation.

The Long Island, NY based singer-songwriter continues to perform solo at venues across the eastern US, expanding and developing his touring base. Spring 2003 tour stops have included shows in New Orleans, Memphis, Nashville, Charlotte, and Lexington as well as numerous dates across upstate New York, Connecticut, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania; the Jackalope Junction band also continues to perform for audiences throughout the NY metro area. Isaacs also maintains a busy music teaching studio and recently joined the faculty of the National Guitar Workshop in Lakeside, CT.
