MP3 David Dyas - Really Super Good

If Elvis Costello was in the Allman Brothers, and they got on a tour bus with Guided By Voices, this is what it would sound like.

10 MP3 Songs
ROCK: Americana, POP: Folky Pop

Details:
Ask David Dyas to describe his music, and he''s likely to say something like "if Elvis Costello joined the Allman Brothers and they all got in a tour bus with Guided By Voices". His debut record, "ReallySuperGood", certainly does evoke the lyricism of Costello, the guitar-driven southern grit of the Allmans, and the indie-spirited song craft of GBV. It is, though, a sign of artistry when a listener can hear a musician''s influences as homage rather than imitation, and "ReallySuperGood" shows that David has delivered something new and heartfelt that totally rocks out.

As a guitarist/multi-instrumentalist in Los Angeles, David''s credits include work with Joey Santiago of the Pixies, producer Paul Fox (XTC, They Might Be Giants), as well as numerous recording sessions for the likes of Maverick Records and Warner-Chappell Publishing. Last year David composed the score for indie feature film "The Talent Given Us", an official selection at the 2005 Sundance Film Festival, which Roger Ebert called "one of the most original, daring, intriguing and...honest films of the year." David has also played guitar for a number of LA-based artists, most recently rocking the stage with the band Shurman (Vanguard Records) and rising alt-country star Gina Villalobos.

Even more impressive is David''s first solo offering, which shows the Mobile, Alabama native to be as competent, creative, and promising a singer/songwriter as he is a guitar player. On "ReallySuperGood", he expands the cast of American song characters to include regretful time travelers (Time Machine) and lovelorn morticians (Undertaker). His characters wrestle with familiar human emotions, but through David''s songs those emotions are revealed to be far more delicate and complex than most pop music suggests: Capsize and Saturn Return journey through the darker nooks and crannies of busted-up love, while Oblivion straddles the tension between a longing for faith and a sense of abandonment.

Live, whether it''s solo or with a full band, David plays with barely containable energy and soul, connecting hips, heart, hands and voice to deliver an undeniably raucous set. As one fan recently put it, he''s "leading the good fight to defend rock ''n roll and I am following". Even though he''s settled in Los Angeles, it''s as though David''s on a mission to bring the rowdy, sexy swampiness of his Deep South roots to the local stage, and well beyond. When he comes to your town, get out there and shake it
with him.
