Details:
This is the latest set of intimate home recordings from Chicago singer-songwriter Dolph Chaney. Electric guitar and bouzouki highlight simple, forthright acoustic arrangements to focus attention on the deepening songcraft on display. "Status Unknown" previously appeared as the lead track on the TINFOIL THOTHS compilation, and its E-bow bittersweetness is complemented by self-deprecating yet affirming songs like "Hello World" and "Headbonker". Meanwhile, his sharp sense of humor is evident in "April Fools" (in which the members of Van Halen, the tycoons of Wall Street, and the forces of nature are all rendered blithering in less than 2 minutes), the delirious "Make Me," and "Cuddle Party" (soon to serve as the theme song to an independent film of the same name). And then there''s "Weaving In The Rain," the strongest exhibit to date of Chaney''s employment of unexpected wordplay in the service of deep melancholy. All in all, this is yet another warm, communicative homemade album from Dolph Chaney -- fetch hither the comfy chair and enjoy.
