The Island of Tranquillity”, is a relaxation CD that uses a number of simple techniques to aid relaxation. By using breathing and muscle relaxation techniques, along with original music, gentle narration, natural sounds and visualisation, you are gently guided to an imaginary island. Totally relaxing and then slowly returned from the island feeling calm and refreshed.
Acting as a simpler alternative to hypnotherapy and without any subliminal messages, “The island of Tranquillity” CD uses gentle exercises which are designed to help participants escape the general tensions and anxieties of their work and home life, leaving them feeling calm, relaxed and able to cope with everyday concerns.
Originally I trained and qualified as a nurse, then further training, as a health and fitness instructor now allows me to focus on the prevention of lower back pain. As a freelance instructor I teach classes that include aerobics, circuit training and Pilates. Combining my knowledge and experience has led to a greater understanding of back pain and therefore the realisation that pain can be a great source of tension and anxiety. This then led to appreciate the need for using relaxation techniques as part of an exercise programme and is included in all my classes.
At the end of each class twenty minutes or so are spent leading the class through a relaxation exercise. After the session, different clients continually asked me to go home with them so that they could relax and then sleep! Then it was suggested that I record a relaxation session. So I looked into recording the process professionally and “The Island of Tranquillity” CD was born.
Deciding to research the process of relaxation, in greater detail, I approached various doctors, psychiatrists, psychologists, and nursing staff, and spent a great deal of time talking to many people who suffer from tension and anxiety symptoms. After lengthy discussions with these groups and further research by reading, the evidence based conclusion was obvious; that what I basically teach in class would form the basis of the CD, as these techniques have continually proved successful.
The CD is proving a great success. With each CD sold I have given an evaluation sheet to the clients and have asked them to fill it in anonymously. The clients, having bought a CD for their own use, are now buying them to give to friends and relatives and the responses have been very positive. Many people have been happy to put their name on the form and have given permission for me to use their comments here.
