Ancestral Voyage - the debut album from Dreamship
Timothy Martin and Ed Schaum have forever changed the way artists create music together. Ancestral Voyage, the new rock album from Dreamship, was composed, arranged, produced, recorded, mixed and mastered entirely via the internet!
In fact, Martin and Schaum have never even met each other.
But they wrote and played this entire album together, even though they were 2,000 miles apart the whole time. They spent countless hours passing huge files back and forth across the net, and this is the result ... a concept album of progressive music that takes you on a voyage into your dreams - a journey through the past, the present and the future to find your place in the grand scheme...searching the sky.
Dreamship weaves complex arrangements and majestic sound with mainstream rock music. The tunes alternate between driving rock anthems and delicate passages, and the album tells a story that you won''t soon forget.
The album includes a 12 page, full color booklet, with pictures, lyrics, and great graphics from cover to cover.
Timothy Martin - the acclaimed composer, keyboard master, and soaring vocalist
Ed Schaum - progressive composer and virtuoso guitarist.
HERE''S WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING ABOUT DREAMSHIP:
Combining virtuoso playing with accessible songwriting, Dreamship sails in carrying a cargo of smart yet never overwrought tunes. Plenty of wild contrapuntal, classical-styled interplay between the guitar and keyboard is spun around strong, hauntingly sung melodies... all delivered with a casual ease and exuberance which avoids any hint of the melodramatic self-importance often associated with prog-rock. If your tastes run anywhere from Bowie to Metallica to The Beatles, give these guys a listen. Highly recommended.
You know when music is really imaginative because it conjures up images, either from your past or a future foretold in a slide-show constructed of dreams. Dreamship music fuses serenity with subtle power, never overbearing but at the ready, sometimes unleashed, like a tidal bore only to recede back into tranquil seas. There is a wonderfully ethereal quality to this music that defies labeling. When one considers the name, I guess this should come as no surprise, yet it''s worth mentioning because it''s done so well!
Then there''s the substance factor, that rare slice of the musical pie so typically absent in contemporary music. There is a message in each number communicating both thought and emotion, the kind of stuff that plays to the soul not just the ear. After all, music should be experienced as well as heard. Personally, I find this recording to be an absolutely stellar first effort!
The guitar work...exhibits both skill and style. Searing leads accompany magical pieces and melodious chords suddenly erupt into driving riffs...Damn!! I love it! Style and class rule here, not flashy showmanship! And the singing is such a splendid match for the music! No fluff here, just an honest assessment.
Can''t say just how much I enjoyed this wonderful, truly beautiful music. This is soul-touching ...the stuff of dreams. Both cuts are great: I bought the CD having heard My Machine Alive but am head over heels with The Crytsal Stream.
Ed and Tim, this experiment of yours is a grand success! I was addicted after hearing "My Machine Alive" but I know there is no cure after hearing "The Crystal Stream" ... and that''s just fine with me. Of course I have bought your album and I am eagerly anticipating its arrival!
Dreamship - a "must buy"! Prog rock is alive and well! As with all good prog, with each listen I pick up on different layers to the music which keeps me hooked. So far, after these early listens, I have to say that this is a great prog CD, The Forest Suite in particular my personal highlight.!
Love the track "My Machine Alive". I am pre-ordering. I am familiar with Ed Schaum''s (he''s great!) guitar playing and highly recommend his trip into prog. rock.
This is excellent. I''ve only heard one song, but if the rest of the album is anything like the single, count me in! I think I''ll go listen again.
you have another happy customer here judging by a regularly interrupted attempt to listen to the first few tracks, I really like My Machine Alive. There seems to be so many influences as the other guys have noticed and so far I think it''s going to be money well spent.
It sounds fantastic
Wow it is a very professional package, I was expecting a more unprofessional indie label look but you guys have it looking like the new RUSH CD. It really appears like a major label release. Well done. I must admit what I''ve heard so far is quite good.
