Details:
Dr. Fong aka Jay Wilfong made his way to his present hometown Nashville, Tennessee in the late 90''s. The infamous Doc and friends are a conglomeration of the some of the best studio peeps, touring rockers, bluesmen and the best of those not quite right Nashville cats. These guys are never the same twice and have more war stories between them than Bruce Willis and Arnold Schwartzenegger!

Picture bullet riddled life surviving bluesmen! Fong started out WAY back in the 60''s at little Indiana venues and rocked his way to a small piece of fame and fortune in bands such as the Poverty Programme, Cottonwood Junction, The Pandemonium Shadow Show and then founded one of planet''s most incredible and least known bands "Primevil". Primevil was managed by WNAP''s music director Micahel T. John Griffin and were somehow tagged the "baddest band what am".

Primevil burnt up the stages in Indiana in 73 and 74 and released what is now the highly prized "Smokin" Bats at Campton''s" LP that was produced and recorded at the legendary 700 West Studio. Highlights of the Primevil bands'' escapades were opening for such legends as Z Z Top, Climax Blues Band, Muddy Waters, Renaissance, Billy Cobham, Roy Buchanan, Kansas and more! Later in the 70''s Wilfong put together the Buccaneer album and concert project that debuted at the Indianapolis Convention Center. The self titled album Buccaneer outsold virtually every major release in the Indiana market and had extensive airplay.

Again, Moe Whittemore''s super 700 West Studio had a hand in the production and the final mastered product. Despite the incredibly regional success Wilfong recalls the emotional roller coaster and crash when RSO Records, Island Records and Polygram all eventually passed on the project. What chance did it have when artists like Eric Clapton lost their deals for a period of time?

When the band failed to land a major distribution deal during the record industry''s dark era known as the Jimmy Carter administration, Wilfong lost everything, including his first marriage and literally put down his guitar, turning his back completely on music for 23 years. The pain of it all was just too intense. After rebuilding his life and eventually settling in Nashville in 98, Wilfong''s second marriage was now on the rocks and over. In 2003 and in the clutches of deep depression Wilfong turned to an old friend that he had not seen or touched in years and made contact once again with music, this time focusing on blues and power rock blues. Since that time Dr. Fong has been cutting a swath through the Nashville blues scene as well as prolifically writing blues, rock, torch, jazz and an occasional country song. Check out his work.
