dr. madelyn hatter, performance poet and slam survivor, is the devious and charming alter ego of megan volpert. they were both born and raised in the north suburbs of chicago. megan started writing poetry at a young age, but was not performing until madelyn arrived on the scene in 2001. since then, she has shared the stage with a diverse group of poets: from bitch (of righteous babe records'' bitch and animal), mahogany browne, jive poetic and joel chmara, to collin kelley, laura mullen and andrei codrescu.
the twenty-three year old libra is currently tempting fate in baton rouge, pursuing a master of fine arts in poetry and screenwriting with a minor in performance studies. there are several awards and publications and stuff that should go here, but you''re probably more interested in their list of favorites, which includes: pasta, guinness, the color green, ani difranco, surrealist visual art, chuck taylor low-tops, jeopardy and bowling. they count alix olson, anne waldman and taylor mali among their poetic inspirations.
