Details:
Marypat Farrell is a talented comedian and actor with a special sense of timing, bringing a a true warmth and genuine dimension to every part played on stage, television and the big screen. But when she isn''t playing for laughs, she''s also a thoughtful, richly moving singer-songwriter.
Born in the picturesque, light-years-from-Hollywood small New England Town of Norwich, Vermont, Marypat grew up in this sleepy hamlet, the youngest of seven children and youngest of six girls in the family. One of her older sisters played guitar and used to sing for her younger siblings at bedtime. Before her hands could clasp all the way around the neck of the guitar, Marypat asked her big sister for lessons and was soon singing and playing herself.
Working one summer in Alaska at a Cannery (an experience filled with stories on their own), Marypat saved up enough money to buy her first guitar, months later, at a Sam Ash music store in New York City. Taking inspirations in the often-introspective explorations of Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell, the Grateful Dead lyricist Robert Hunter and others, Marypat began to explore that side of her soul.
While she found success on Canadian and then U.S. television in various roles, as well as comedy performances onstage, from Las Vegas to Los Angeles, Marypat continued to follow her musical path as well, developing as both a songwriter and performer.
In L.A., while joining the local improv community, she began to play music with fellow comedian/actor musician Douglas Sarine and also found herself working weekly with the celtic punk band The Mighty Regis at one of L.A.''s legendary Irish bars, Molly Malone''s. She also played guitar and sang on the band''s first album.
While Marypat is very comfortable in improv and on television, singing her songs before a live audience is always a different challenge, sharing her deeply perceptive impressions of the world around us.
Marypat has recorded a new five-song EP and continues to play her heartfelt songs around Southern California, balancing music with her acting career, a synergy of confessional tears and full-bodied laughter, touching all aspects of the things that make us human.
