Details:
"Music is not only my passion, but my sanity as well." Phil Murphy 1996.

Growing up in a musical family nourished what was an obvious passion and talent. Phil''s father Martin (who performed with his own group), taught him to read music at the age of three. Phil utilized this instruction to master such instruments as the recorder and saxaphone. His true creative talents were not fully realised, however, until he discovered the guitar. Immediately after this discovery, Phil formed his first group at the age of nine and performed at local festivals and schools.

A move took him from Lindsay, Ontario to Thunder Bay, Ontario where he would join the group Protagy. They went on to some local success before adolescent confusion and a family break up created personal problems, landing him in the youth correctional system.

Not missing a beat, or wasting his time, Phil''s first request was a guitar which was gladly provided. During this time Phils writing abilities and creative talents blossomed. Approached by the facilities Minister, Phil found himself agreeing to perform each Sunday at mass in an attempt to draw people to church. Motivated by the request Phil created new songs and, much to the Ministers delight, performed before an ever growing audience each Sunday. As reward the Minister provided Phil with recording devices which he used to distribute his music through and outside of the facility.

In 1994 Phil formed the group Non Such, and performed around much of northern Ontario gathering an extensive fan base and some local radio attention. He also performed in an acoustic duo called Greenwich Meantime which took third place in a local contest furthering his attention.

Frustrated by the lack of respect the growing music scene incurred in Thunder Bay Phil moved to Edmonton, Alberta as such mecca''s as Toronto and Vancouver became overpopulated with musicians trying to make thier mark. There he met good friend and producer, Stew Kirkwood. Stew produced Phil''s first independant album under the name Gabriels Music Box. Dissapointed, but undaunted, with the response to this first effort Phil altered the groups personnel by aquiring current drummer Nuno Tavares and changing the groups name to Cerveja. Suddenly performance opportunities flourished, most notable, an opening slot with Sum 41 in 2001.

Band complications once again arose causing the break up of Cerveja. During this down time Phil recorded a solo acoustic project with Stew Kirkwood. Considered to be too personal, Phil decided not to release it but played the songs in local coffee shops to a growing audience. The experience convinced him to release another solo project. With the assistance of Stew Kirkwood (Soundextractor Studios) and Chris Sturwold (This is Oddyo inc.) he released his first solo project, August 23, 2006 at the late, Sidetrack Cafe in Edmonton.

Since this time he has performed constantly and with the use of such marketing utilities as the internet and local newspapers garnered country wide attention and sold over a thousand albums independently. He currently has plans to release a follow up to 2006''s "Picture Show for Dummies," in the summer of 2008.
