The braille tapes were born out of an idea and a friendship between two dudes from Bellingham, Washington. The idea was to use improvisation and noise to create something that was based on mood and feel, as opposed to what was actually being played. Chad Fox and Joshua Young played numerous shows together in their respective bands (Never Again and Autumn Poetry) before Chad eventually joined Autumn Poetry. Shortly after that Never Again disbanded and the idea for the Braille Tapes was born, basically the idea being two guys (armed with just a guitar, two amps, and a drum kit) playing heavy music with subtle nice guy sensibilities, and making the BT an open forum to let anyone who wants to express themselves participate. In the span of two years the Braille tapes have toured the west coast several times, and played many local shows from Bellingham right on down to Seattle. In this time they have put out two independently released albums on keaton collective, entitled “chapter one: i want to be victor ward” (late 2005) and “chapter two: f-bomb” (early 2007). The first record being a noisy, stripped down recording done in a day, with the two hashing it out and finishing the songs as they were recording them. The second release was more of an organized effort, employing the help of friends to round out their sound with monstrous gang vocals. the braille tapes have big plans for 2008, first releasing an ep of some post f-bomb material entitled “the uncle bt ep” while writing their new, yet to be titled full length about a boy who believes, and convinces his friend that he is a robot. This release will be the most calculated and full album the band will be attempting, using a full backing band to round out their sound. A few tours are also in the works for this coming year, making the braille tapes a vital, working band based on friendship and a love of putting notes and rhythms into the air for all to hear.
