HELCION
One of the most talented, unique and dedicated hard rock bands in the Okanagan Valley of British Columbia, HELCION is here to leave their mark on the North American music scene.
Formed in late 2004, members Jessica Toorenburgh - bass and vocals, Richard Madsen - guitar and Corey Ferguson - drums, create an eclectic, unique and sometimes haunting sound which is not easily categorized but shows characteristics of hard rock and metal with a melodic sound.
All three of the bands members come from different musical backgrounds, but when brought together create an interesting and pleasurable blend of melody and heaviness that captivates and captures ones attention, making you want to get up and move. The songs are not easily forgotten and when Jessica sings you are left speechless and in awe, wondering if in fact a spell has been placed. To watch and listen to Jessica is a memorable experience; her powerful voice, venerable lyrics, mesmerizing eyes and confident sex appeal make for a show you will certainly want to continue to see over and over again.
The band has been playing consistently throughout the Okanagan and the Interior of BC, developing a large and very loyal following, and has recently been heard playing with such bands as Rayzing Sons, out of L.A., Flatlined, from Ontario, Cold Driven, Black Betty, The Black Halo’s and The People Verses.
It is hard to categorize the bands genre as it is a sound all unto its own. It is a heavier indie rock, but the band has successfully played with metal bands, punk, reggae, hard core, rock-a-billy, and even a few blues bands and was received successfully by all. HELCION’s music crosses over to many audiences allowing them to play to a large demographic therefore bringing in a large draw.
HELCION has just finished recording the first half of their 2nd album “Helcion II” consisting of 5 songs with five still yet waiting to be recorded. The five songs recorded are; The Sun Sets for No One, Wants and Needs, Come On’s, The Parting and Bill of Goods. The album garnered nominations for best production and engineering, and the band took home the “Best Metal” award at the 2007 Okanagan Music Awards. Constantly trying to expand their audience they continue to reach beyond the confines of the Okanagan, and spread their sound to the masses. Hitting new towns and venues throughout the interior of BC during winter, leading to further touring spring/summer 2008.
With a new album and greater dedication to creating and sharing their amazing music, HELCION is destined for greatness. To listen to it is only the beginning; the rest is the EXPERIENCE of it. Be assured, you will not be disappointed.
