WHO IS THIS GUY?

Pietro was born in one of the ugliest cities in the world (Mestre, Italy), famous for being next to one of the most beautiful cities of the world (Venice, Italy – where he currently lives).

As a kid he was quite hard to be taught, he preferred to improvise and play freely instead of practicing; he used to improvise on piano for hours, or play songs he used to hear on the radio, or sing into his tape recorder(making his brothers go mad).

He began composing music at 15, with personal computers (Commodore Amiga 500 and trakers, evolving later with PC and Cubase), receiving attention and positive comments in several music and videogames reviews, also gaining important electronic-music prizes. At the age of 18 he began studying classical music, then after a couple of years switched to jazz, but soon gave up classes and decided to practice and study by himself. In the meantime he played in several jazz, latin and fusion bands.

At the age of 26 he joined a workshop held by the great italian pianist Glauco Venier who, after hearing Pietro playing, decided to give him a scolarship for attending the Berklee Summer School at Umbria Jazz. Here, Pietro had the chance to meet and play with many other young musicians (Daniele Pozzi, Simone Gerardo, ecc.); some of them are still working with him on several projects (for example, Insolito Quartet or Whispering Sensations).

in 2001 Pietro made his first solo album, “Breathe”, performed and recorded in his studio, that has never been published. Now he has finally released his solo piano record, “Minimal”, which required over 1 year of hard work and countless takes, to provide the best result ever with limited time and money.

“In this record” said Pietro, “I''ve put all myself, all of my experience and efforts to give a personal interpretation of a piano solo jazz record, free from usual cliches we''re tired to listen to. I can''t stand musicians who keep on doing records with standard jazz tunes, I think jazz has to move forward and this is my little contribute”.

As this kind of music in Italy is not mainstream at all, Pietro is doing 3 daytime jobs to pay the bills, but maybe this record will bring him the attention and payoff he deserves...don''t you think?
