Details:
Bruce Leroy blends the genres of Jazz, Rock, and R&B to form one of the best live hip-hop bands out of Atlanta, Georgia. Their debut album “Wanna Try Sample?” is a play on words from the Chinese restaurants inside the mall food courts of America. The workers who yell out “wanna try sample?” come armed with sesame chicken and toothpicks to entice mall rats to try a sample in hopes of them ordering the main entrée. Bruce Leroy’s approach uses the same simple method as they entice their fans with this CD (the sample) in hopes of them wanting more by going to their live shows (the entrée).

The faces of Bruce Leroy has changed over the past couple years, but the two faces that remain the same have been Marvin (writer, lead vocalist, engineer) aka the Iron Chef and Dillio Lunari (production, keys, vocals, engineer). Marvin is the Filipino-American MC who is the mastermind of the group. His vision for the concept of the album is accompanied by the production of Dillio (the heart of the group)–who sings, plays keys, beatboxes, and incorporates the talkbox during their live shows. Dillio’s production has a distinct sound to when you hear it you’ll automatically know that it’s a “Dillie Beat”. The backbone and timekeeper of the group is the new drummer, T-Man. Although T-man is only featured on the Live @ the Dojo tracks of the album because of his short time with the group-his contributions to the arrangement of the live shows is unsurpassed. Whiz is the machine who rips it on the guitar on the track “Rearview”. His rock influence (played in ghetto-metal group eX Vortex along with T-Man) blends perfectly with Dillio’s Neo-Rhodes sound during the live sets. Max (Maximusic) plays Bass throughout the album, but unfortunate circumstances and a falling out with the band has had Max pursue other musical ventures. His contributions to Bruce Leroy as one of the original members will not be forgotten. Erby (Max’s cousin) has filled in nicely to step in Max’s shoes to accompany the band on bass guitar during the live shows. He is featured in the Live @ the Dojo sessions in the album. Last but not least we have Mercier, who is featured in the album as the comic relief, but don’t sleep on him as he provides lead and background vocals during the live shows.

As hip-hop progresses throughout the years with sampling as a main method of early production-Bruce Leroy samples a mélange of diverse music to create this album. “Wanna Try Sample?” is just the beginning.
