I was born and raised in Enumclaw, Washington until the age of seventeen. Music was a part of my life from the beginning. It wasn’t until the age of seventeen when I moved to Fairbanks, Alaska, did I start writing and performing my own original music and lyrics. The years that followed took me back to my favorite places in Washington state (namely Leavenworth in the Central Cascades), British Columbia and the Yukon Territory, Canada, Idaho, Utah, Colorado, five trips back and forth on the legendary Alaska Highway (one solo in winter) and a week-long wintertime excursion up the Inside Passage on the Alaska Ferry out of Bellingham. Throughout those travels, the songs from the album were written.
Of all the places I have been and seen, Alaska is the most magical and special to me. The people I met there, the adventures and the many great memories of absolute freedom and camaraderie are fixtures in my life that I will not only never forget, but ones that still call to me...they’ve gotten under my skin.
The thing about Alaska, they say, is that it does “get under your skin”. Once you’ve bonded with the wild and natural freedom of the place and people, you never truly leave for good. I wrote my first original song about an Alaskan man I met in Fairbanks and debuted it at the College Coffeehouse, there, on the corner of College and University Avenue. Needless to say, a large part of my inspiration was drawn from Alaska - the feelings I felt there and the experiences I had. I continue to draw my inspiration from freedom-inducing places and experiences and from the truly intriguing individuals who, much to my delight, can’t seem to keep from crossing my path!
Today I live in Leavenworth, Washington to work for the winter and promote the new album.
