Mavis Grind are a funked-up four-piece ROCK band from rural Hampshire. Their eclectic sound is built around funky drums, punchy bass lines, rocking guitar riffs and grooving keyboards.
It is the strength of their songs and musicianship which has provoked such a lot of positive feedback from many people who have heard the album and seen the band live. They play with a genuinely powerful passion and quality.
Much of this centres around the technical excellence of lead guitarist Frank Tidy – here is a guy who has real natural talent and combines in his intuitive playing, a fantastic balance of power and sensitivity. Mavis Grind is far from a one man show though and Dave Evans on keyboards, guitar and vocals is a multitalented singer, songwriter and musician who works well with the power generated by the rest of the band with subtle keyboards and an excellent sense of what to play when, without overdoing it. Bass player and vocalist Pete Beckley supplies a brilliant quirkiness and retro vibe to the song writing and performing and together with the funky beats and delicious grooves from drummer Steve Mayes they form the essential rhythmic backbone of the Mavis sound.
