Details:
Michael Silverman''s "The Forgotten Forest" was recorded in 1994, and was inspired by a book of photographs by Michael Eastman, also titled "the Forgotten Forest." The book was a beautiful black and white series of photogaphic plates of Forest Park in St. Louis, and showed both the natural beauty and the decay of the park, as it was underfunded for many years. It was part of a groundswell in St. Louis to recognize this forgotten treasure, and the park has since seen a resurgence and rebuilding.
The music is a series of improvisations based on siple themes inspired by these photographs, in the same way Keith Jarrett''s recordings are a "snapshot" of a musical feeling, recorded and never quite reproduced in the same way.
