THE ELECTRIC EFFECT - FROM THE CENTRE OF THE SUN
It''s a bit of a facer that a supposedly self-released and self-produced debut can sound this good. Not that I''m complaining; it''s just that being drip-fed an almost constant diet of indie minimalism created with little more than unlimited imagination and an extremely limited budget, something as polished as The Electric Effect''s album, on which sonic perfection is repeatedly attained with all the effortless ease of a gum-chewing tightrope-walker high above a three-ring circus of baying malcontents, stands out like a sore thumb. Who are these people? How the hell can they afford such studio gadgetry as must''ve been employed to create something which gives the likes of Kula Shaker and Gomez a run for their money and makes the Super Furry Animals sound positively lo-fi? Actually, the comparison carries weight even with further analysis, ''Sitting On'' and the title track both sounding pre-packaged for the retro-hungry masses, and the only quixotic sparkle of ''Over the Moon Song'' being an adorably out of context pedal-steel guitar. The opening ''Astronaut'' meanwhile is a catchy sliver of psycho-pop from around eight miles high; ''Midnight Caught Me'' and ''Atomic Stickman'' are like hearing Pink Floyd abolish the 70s and start afresh from where they left off, and ''Saturn 2'' is a mobius tale of systematic head-fuckery courtesy of some killer stereo panning, essence of psychedelia matched only by the aptly titled instrumental space rock trip of ''Orbit 6''. Make of this what you will, but The Electric Effect have proved to be a big hit amongst acquaintances of mine who profess not to be particularly interested in music.

THE ELECTRIC EFFECT / From The Centre Of The Sun
The Electric Effect is a new English psych band from the Nottingham area. It''s a 5-piece with a sound and style of writing highly reminiscent of the late 60s British school of pop psych and acid rock. The group recorded all their material in the local Rubber Biscuit Studio and selected 10 number(28'') for inclusion on "From The Centre Of The Sun", the band''s debut album. And a job well done it turned out to be: each track on the album is yet another variation on the late 60s English psychedelic rock archetype, melodic and flowing in structure, dreamy and hallucinatory in lyrics and atmosphere. The Electric Effect recorded a pretty perfect sounding psychedelic album that unites the more lunched-out style effects of legends like Pink Floyd (with Syd!), the (British) Kaleidoscope, July, Tomorrow, etc. (the list could get long here, check out your own "Rubble" collection) completely independently. Interesting new band playing 60s sounds with a personal, twisted touch that makes you enjoy every second of their outstanding debut. An absolute must for 60s buffs!!

In effect ''The Electric Effect'' present an album that has been called one of the best ever E.P''s. The songs roll through a multitude of soundscapes but are some how linked by the finest of threads. Although it took me a few plays, I was hooked... A Must!

Review in Overall (theirs a smell of fried onions)
From the rumbleing psycho minia of ''Sitting on'' to the glissanding pedal steel in ''over the moon song''. The Electric Effect touch some weird bases yet manage to get home in one piece.

English translation of review

The Electric Effect is a young quintet from Nottingham which formed themselves in English psych school from the end of the 60''s and more appropriately like pink floyd/Syd Barret.
6 years have gone by and there have been other experimental records under a different name (The V Necks)
Putting together the visionary formula contained in the ''Centre of the Sun'', which has the aim of visiting the sorts of English band which put on Psych spectacle which remind one of the space rock and folk played by Barret and Kaleidoscope and in modern time bands like spacemen 3 and my bloody Valentine. Today it falls to Pat Gunning and JP Braddock to follow on and refresh this tradition of mental journey through the sounds of that special harmonic music which starts us on the mantra of the enchanted journey which gives us indescribable shivers under our skin with out having recourse to who know what alchemy or musical strategy because when all said and done we are here dealing with Rock drugs.
It is music which sends starlike spirals of harmony into our minds and gives us sensations that are familiar to us but still works.
