Update 12/09/2007

Recording is done and "take 2" is now reality. The songs may be roughly the same, but they couldn’t be any more different. The sound is huge, well mixed, everyone is heard for who they are, and it has a low end that’s just waiting to kick you in the chest. You just want to get in your car, crank it up, and hit the road, which is just what were planning to do. We feel that we have now come full circle in our detour and would like to thank everyone who never gave up on us.

Are you ready.........

Update 09/20/2007

So here we stand. Free from the past that had almost destroyed us. We have stuck to our guns and spent the last year and a half reshaping our songs, rebuilding our sound, writing new material, and discovering who we really are as a band. Hopefully we learned some things about ourselves along the way. The redefining process is not easy, but well worth the fight.
In August of 2007 we caught a break and made the cut for the Battle of the Bands at the Toyota Arena. We had a couple of weeks to adjust our set list, deal with anxiety, and get ready to find out if all of the doubts were real or not. The moment had come and we did our thing. It wasn’t perfect by any means, we had our share of issues, but it didn’t matter. The crowd was amazing. The natural response to the songs and the energy emitted was enough to restore the confidence that had once been stripped away.
That night was a major step in bringing us back full circle, but not quite. The last thing we are doing is re-recording our debut album “Knot 22”. What was created out of the love of music and friendship was secretly altered. From that we decided that our integrity as well as the album would not be for sale. We are a band in the true sense of the word, and as I had mentioned before, we want everyone’s passion, style, and creativity to be translated honestly and without prejudice. Bad move? Waste of time and money? Maybe, but it will be real. It will be honest. It will be 45th Parallel for who we are, Period. Love it or hate it, you decide.

So…round 12…let’s rock!

Original Bio 05/2006
45th Parallel formed in late 2003, comprised of four friends sharing a common vision of bringing hard hitting, meaningful music to the people.
Bass guitar, Mike Cook, a seasoned veteran bringing his own style of low end goodness along with an impressive and seemingly endless resume of gigs such as L.A.’s infamous Whiskey A Go-Go, Troubadour, and The Roxy, just to scratch the surface.
Now, as you may have guessed the two Rhodes are brothers. Rob on drums, Mike, Vocals/ Guitar. In 1992 they had formed an original rock band in Atlanta, GA with no success, (you know; lead guitarists, bass players, and the whole pesky day job thing). Mike attended the Atlanta Institute of Music where he studied guitar, worked with some cover bands for a while but due to an overwhelming need to eat, eventually took a job with Rob traveling for the Nuclear Power Industry.
I had mentioned four friends earlier. Hang on its coming, but it’s not pretty. With that said I will spare you the roses and sunshine details of first meetings and male bonding and fast forward as follows:……
Blah blah blah…...friend of a friend. Yak yak yak……“hey music, cool, me too!!” Blah blah blah……Mike Cook, rocking out, Portland, https://www.tradebit.comity yak yak……“come on bro, move out here, need singer”. Rah rah rah……mailbox, song, mmmm, sounds great! Blah blah blah…..Mike Cook, you rock, join band? Yak yak yak……..”sure”. Yada yada yada…….sell house. Blah……move.
Yak……..Mike R, Mike C, Mike C, Mike R. Yada...............“s’up”.
And breathe……………..Band official, spring 2004.
Hey that was easier! Now back to the story, already in progress.
Not wanting to play the bars doing the cover scene, 45th decided to spend all of their time in the studio developing, recording, and mixing a full length debut album. In December 2005 recording and mixing done, “Knot 22” was complete and sent off for post production, and 45th could now focus on working out a live show.
During the early part of 2006, as a typical band scenario would have, tensions were building for unknown reasons. As it turns out, (to keep it simple) the fore mentioned “common vision” was not so common after all, and founding member, co-songwriter, lead guitar player, and long time friend, Sam Nappi eventually left 45th Parallel late spring 2006. We all wish him well and hope he can find in life, whatever it is he is looking for. If anyone would like to contact Sam, send us an e-mail and we’ll gladly forward it on. On the unfortunate side, this whole situation got extremely messy, and left us pondering our future. (We’ll spare you all the details, or just save them for VH1, later…, just remember kids, communication is key to any relationship!) Bottom line is sometimes life can throw nasty curves, but just maybe, the powers that be needed to see just what we are made of.
With the past behind us we are moving forward (as a trio) with supporting the “Knot 22” album until we can re-record it, allowing everyone’s creativity, style and passion to be translated honestly and without prejudice. We are currently working on new material as well. Our new found drive and creative energy feels to be headed in the right direction. The next album will support the hard rock genre, but will definitely have a different vibe.
So.., Down but not out, (auditions, rearrangements, etc.). Beaten but not broken, (like Rocky in the 12th round!). 45th Parallel is coming. Be ready to rock and hang on for the ride!!!

To be continued……………. M. Rhodes
