"Live From Malibu," the third independent release of up-and-coming Hoosier singer-songwriter Ryan Ahlwardt (pronounced "all-wert"), falls close upon the successful heels of his 2007 "The Malibu EP." Both albums’ monikers pay homage to Young Life’s Malibu camp property in remote British Columbia, Canada where Ahlwardt performed during Summer 2007.
"Live From Malibu" features 12 live tracks captured during Ahlwardt’s weekly concerts at the beautiful wilderness retreat. The disc also highlights the seasoned guitar work, developed songwriting skills, and conversational sense of humor the multi-talented Hoosier native has become known for since his solo performance career took full flight in 2005.
Among the 12 tracks on Ahlwardt''s "Live From Malibu," four new original compositions are included on the album:
“Follow Me,” a collaboration with Minnesotans – and fellow Malibu companions – Ben “Busta” Dodds and Tuesday Roby,
“You Said So,” a rhythmic piece that highlights Ahlwardt’s versatile falsetto in its chorus and poignant lyrical ability,
“Walnut Street Blues,” a tune reminiscent of an early James Taylor, which was written during Ahlwardt’s solo days in Bloomington, IN, and
“Falling Into You,” Ahlwardt’s encore at an intimate songwriter’s venue in Indianapolis during the Fall of 2006. This track is the first recorded public performance of the song, which Ryan, as if by a twist of fate, began writing and completed on the same date two years apart.
In addition to these new compositions, "Live From Malibu" includes Ryan''s acoustic versions of such fan favorites as "Maybe On Another Day," "Windows Down," and "Turn My Head to Home" from his 2005 indie release "I Can See Forever."
"Live From Malibu" is a collection of songs which will be appreciated by fans of such acoustic singer-songwriters as James Taylor, John Mayer, Jack Johnson, Dave Barnes, Amos Lee, and more. The album, which is available exclusively in digital format, is evidence of Ahlwardt’s forward progression into becoming one of his generation’s most talented songwriters and live performers.
