Details:
BETWEEN STATIONS consists of 14 intricately layered collages made from samples and loops of found and created sounds and music. The album was created especially for recording onto cassette tape used in the weaving of SONIC FABRIC, an audible, durable, versatile textile. The tracks on BETWEEN STATIONS are themselves, quite literally, a fabric of sound…they weave in and out of one another, and are intended to be heard as one seamless piece.

SONIC FABRIC is the somewhat accidental invention of conceptual & sound artist/musician Alyce Santoro. Its creation was inspired by two things: "tell-tails", wind indicators used on sailboats that are often made from small strands of cassette tape, and Tibetan prayer flags...both are imbued with sonic potential that is released into the world on the wind.

Alyce''s work is exhibited internationally. A set of sailboat sail/prayer flags made from sonic fabric is currently (''til May 2008) on view at the Museum of Contemporary Art in San Diego as part of "Soundwaves: the Art of Sampling".

BETWEEN STATIONS was inspired by life in New York City, though, it contains samples collected in places far removed from the five boroughs. The brilliant guitarist/sound and video artist Julian Mock contributed to and collaborated on many of the tracks.

BETWEEN STATIONS comes in a limited-edition, one-of-a-kind SONIC FABRIC sleeve. SONIC FABRIC is woven from 50% recorded, recycled audiocassette tape and 50% polyester thread.

On youtube channel “alyceobvious” you will find instructions on how to make your own sonic fabric “reader” out of an old portable tape player, as well as other short videos of sonic fabric in action...including Jon Fishman, Phish percussionist, who wore and played a dress made of SONIC FABRIC on stage in 2004.
