Woelfl: Klaviersonate Nr. 1 Opus 1/1

The Sonata No. 1 in F-major was assigned the opus No.1, and represents the first work of the composer that appeared in print. In the allusion to the aria of Figaro from Mozarts opera Le Nozze di Figaro that Woelfl included in the first movement Allegro of his sonata, he pays his respect to the teacher of his childhood years. Having originated before 1795, the work is an example of the composers early phase. Woelfl was a virtuoso pianist, who reportedly moved audiences all across Europe to great enthusiasm by virtue of his extraordinary skill to extemporize, improvising on any given theme.
