Blending soulful rock anthems with poetic ballads, Greg Talmage (the band) draws from the events of everyday life and a multitude of musical influences to create an audio experience that is truly a treat. Fighting the stereotype that songwriters typically write songs only about relationships with the opposite sex, Talmage expresses the complete spectrum of emotions through his songs, paying homage to his friends, family, naysayers, and yes, even females. "It would be wrong to condemn a band for having a lot of songs about the opposite sex," says Talmage, "because that''s just a strong source of emotion which a lot of artists draw off of, but frankly, our music is about a lot more than that, and we just hope that people will come to our shows with an open mind so that they can find a piece of themselves in the music."
After recording their first full-band demo in the summer of ''06, Greg Talmage (the band) proceeded to meet the unexpected local demand for the three-song cd with over 1000 copies making their way into the hands of fans over the course of the next 8 months. "We really weren''t making the demo to be sold," says lead guitarist, Brandon Bagby, "but to use more of as a tool to get in touch with venues. Then people just started buying the thing and wanting more!" prompting the band to release their first full-length album, "The Way It Goes" due out in September of 2007.
Greg, Brandon and Zach Ingram (drums), knew that if they were to really make it as a band from Baton Rouge, that they would have to find a bass player who was in it for the long haul, leading to the band''s discovery of Nick Spano, who not only rounded out the musical side of the band with his impressive bass chops, but also added an "electric" stage energy. According to Talmage, "After Nick''s first show with us, people were coming up to me saying, ''That guy with the hair ROCKS!'' so I knew he was exactly what we were looking for. We already had the songs, and the musician ship between myself, Zach and Brandon, but Nick really helped finish out the band with that intangible... something..."
With the band formed, they started building a steady and loyal following in Baton Rouge and the surrounding areas of Lafayette and Hammond, and also started booking shows with larger regional and national acts such as The Captain Legendary Band, Cowboy Mouth, Benjy Davis Project, and Corey Smith, all of whose fans have been delighted by the music. "I think that we definitely appeal a lot to the college crowd due to our own ages, but as far as I can tell, we have fans from 14 to 80 years old," says Nick Spano, crediting the overall likeability and diversity of the music to why the band''s fans are themselves so diverse.
Every band has to, at some point, take that next big step, however, and in the fall of 2007, Greg Talmage (the band) will do just that, releasing their fully produced, full-length album "The Way It Goes" to the public and shortly afterward, hitting the road. If their success in their short life as a band thus far is any indication of things to come, you can expect to see and hear a lot from these guys in years to come, so get ready, because they surely are.
