Jenee Halstead comes to music naturally. "She started singing before she could talk," says Kathy Halstead of the baby girl. "Things haven''t changed since" she adds. Jenee''s deep love of music and her influences started with her father’s record collection. "I don''t know anyone other than myself that was awaken at 8 am on a Saturday to Led Zeppelin or Jimi Hendrix, laughs Halstead, "it was actually quite painful at times." The vast array of folk, blues, rock n'' roll, and country obviously had a major effect on her development as a singer/songwriter. In her music you can hear piedmont style blues guitar, beautiful open tunings, fingerpicking, and a voice that melds all the influences into one. "I definitely took the education my father gave me naturally and expanded on it,” states Halstead, "but I wanted to go deeper, know more about the history of the music and how it originated. What I found was a history of blues and bluegrass that blew my mind. I also realized that I related more to the haunting sounds and melodies of the Depression Era music than anything. Now I seek out musicians that draw from that well. It is powerful and delicate at the same time. This is the way I want my songs to come across."
