Details:
Joel Stamoolis’s high school ambition was to be a jazz musician, and he is now a worship pastor by day and a jazz bassist by night. His wife, Naomi, is a classical oboist who never considered herself a singer until she married a guy who likes nothing better than to sit around and play guitar. Joel’s songwriting career took off in 2002, when they were grad students in Ireland and had only a $5 guitar with a warped neck to play. The warped guitar led to experiments with alternate tunings, resulting in the song “Harry’s Blessing” (recorded on their 2005 CD Offering). Back in Alaska a few months later, Joel was offered a position as Worship Pastor at Wasilla Bible Church, where his songwriting was encouraged. Joel enjoys setting Scripture texts to meter, writing songs that draw from congregational life at Wasilla Bible Church.
