Joshua Walker is a versatile guitarist and composer performing in many different groups including the quartet he leads on the album ''Inertia''. This album features his compositions performed by his working quartet of the last two years which includes Russell Kirk on alto saxophone, Shareef Taher on drums, and Michael Hawkins on bass. Joshua has studied with Gary Thomas, Greg Osby, Paul Bollenback and Michael Formanek at The Peabody Institute. During his time at Peabody he was awarded the Charlie Byrd Endowment for Guitar.
Joshua has opened up for Randy Brecker, and Pat and Joe LaBarbara. Joshua has performed at The Montreal International Jazz Festival and the International Jazz Educator''s Confrence in Toronto. Joshua has also performed on the same concert bill as Charlie Byrd.
Joshua is a member of The Jazz Composer''s Alliance in Richmond , Virginia , and has been a featured composer at several of their concerts. Joshua''s compositions have been featured three times on the all original jazz-guitar internet podcast entitled ‘No Idle Frets'' Another of Joshua''s projects, the Joshua Walker Trio, also maintains an active performing schedule. Joshua can also be heard every Sunday at The Glen Restaurant in Glen Allen, Virginia , in a duo with one of the area''s top bassists. Joshua also regularly performs with the Richmond based group, Soul Army.
