MP3 Kevin Curtis - Union

If Jeff Beck and Jimmy Page joined Queen, kicked the piano into touch along with Freddie (a crime, I know), got a few pointers from Joe Satriani and John Mclaughlin and then recorded an instrumental album it might sound like this.

Details:
This is an album of instrumental guitar https://www.tradebit.com where the song, melody and feel are the cornerstones - it''s not about basic riff springboards for endless guitar solos. It''s also very diverse, so please - dip your toe in and have a listen!

The title of this album is very apt for me - it was written and recorded after a period when I hadn''t been able to play the guitar, so it''s all about reviving my passion for the instrument, but also reflected a widening range of influences, From the hard rock side - Ozzy, Sabbath, Dio and so on (Edge of a Precipice, Rebuilding the Machine) mixing in the more melodic aspects from Jeff Beck, Pink Floyd (Across the Divide, : Farewell) as well as a nod to John McLaughlin on Two Halves of Twenty and the fun Steve Vai(ish) style of guitar on Walk Don''t Run.

Edge of a Precipice - a short heavy duty intro in an Ozzy ''harbinger of doom'' style - used to use this as an opening song for live shows.

Walk Don''t Run - a fun, upbeat track.

Rebuilding the Machine - something of an epic at 8 minutes long, the acoustic, atmospheric intro builds into the grinding rhythm of the main song, with a slide melody that conveys dark overtones. If you want to hear the rest of it once it''s into the main section then go to my website as detailed to the left.

Across the Divide – inspired by “Where Were You” by Jeff Beck, the haunting guitar melody leads on to a cyclic ever expanding main section based around an acoustic guitar arpeggio sequence.

Cycle of Life – a simple but dramatic piece where the lead is derived from the intro, itself inspired by whale song.

Two Halves of Twenty – an atmospheric acoustic intro leads into a latin inspired main section, the acoustic lead is all improvised in a ‘rag’ style with some slaps and snaps thrown in. This came from an interest in John McLaughlin and his style of playing/composition, particularly ‘Meeting of the Spirits’.

Head On – a up tempo heavy nod to more metal/thrash styles, fast rhythms with changing accents forms the backbeat to this song.

: Farewell – another simple but dramatic piece.
