Kingrat is an instrumental and Dub Reggae group from Atlanta. They play in a style influenced by roots dub but with more of a focus on extended improvisation, like double long instrumental versions, with dub effects occuring simultaneously... reggae rhythms as a foundation and floating on top extended experimentations by melodica, Saxophone, and Guitars. KingRat doesn''t take a minimalist approach to sound and arrangement. In order to recreate the feeling and process of Dub as would have been heard in the 1970''s Kingston, the band is all routed into a mixing board,reverb and delay units and mixed live. This gives a finished totality to the sound and produces the unique effect of allowing the entire mix to be continously mutated and streched, with instruments dropping in and out, drastically shifting the emphasis of the different musical elements and putting a focus on the bass and drums. There are many other styles that influence KingRat''s rhythms besides classic Reggae and Dub... touches of funk, ska, rhythm and blues, latin and Jungle/DnB can be found in KingRat''s music. Kingrat is a young group hoping to eventually form a larger horn section and release tons of Dub music and play Reggae all over the world.
This is their first full length release and it was completely self produced. Matt Mansfield, the bassist, engineered and mixed it with engineering help from Jeremy Saude and the rest of the band. KingRat also released two Ep previously in very limited quantities, that will soon be available here on CD Baby.
