Delayed Widgets Plugin

Delayed Widgets Plugin Plugin that allows you to add a delay (in seconds) to ALL your widgets before they appear. This can be used to combat Ad Blindness by only displaying the widget after a few seconds and thereby bringing it to the attention of your visitor.

Heres a few examples.

#1 Use a text widget with HTML inside to display your subscriber signup box to open 7 seconds after the page has completed drawing. This is an optimal time to display the sign up box (or any ad) as its been shown that 7 seconds is the average time that people will spend on a web site.

#2 A variant on this is to also add an animated graphic with your affiliate link into a text widget, set to display after a few seconds. It WILL get noticed. What works quite well is to use this style of ad in conjunction
with your subscriber sign up box, but further down the sidebar.

Work out where a reader might be after say 30-45 seconds, and place your ad in the sidebar there, and then set the delay to 30-45 seconds. A bit of trial and error will get the best time for this to appear. As your reader works their way down through your post, the ad will slide into place, and again they WILL see it.

#3 If you wanted to, you could do some nice effects like open up a single line of text every second, just by stacking text widgets with an increasing delay.

#4 If you used this plugin in conjunction with the Countdown Offer plugin I released, you can do some even groovier stuff like hide a regular ad for 32 seconds, and stack above it a countdown offer that disappears after 30 seconds.

The displayed effect would be a countdown offer for 30 seconds which then slides away if not clicked, and replaced with your regular ad. Thinking more about it, you dont even need to include the countdown timer in your countdown offer if you dont want to, you could just swap it out for a different one.

The nice thing is none of these ads are intrusive pop-ups or popovers, and while there are never any guarantees, theyre far more likely to be accepted and acted upon.

Have fun.
