Monica Rivae was born again at a very young age at a church in Upper Tract, West Virginia where her grandfather pastors. She spent her life in church and sang her first solo at the age of two on the platform of her grandfather’s church. As Monica grew older she realized that God had placed a calling upon her life to sing and spread the good news of His gospel. Monica began to sing every Sunday at her home church at the age of 14. In June of 2000, when she was 15, Monica met with the Happy Goodmans and Vestal Goodman told Monica that God had called her and was going to use her. The very day Monica returned home from her trip she received a phone call from a church in her local area asking her to perform at their church. Phone calls began to come in asking Monica not only to sing in her home church, but in other churches in her area. Monica performed her first concert on June 25, 2000, at a small church in Petersburg, West Virginia.
Since that day Monica has performed in churches, camp meetings, revivals, and camps across the United States. Monica has sang a song with Jake Hess and has performed with Jason Camp when he was with the Rabbit Easter Band. People like these have been musical influences for Monica. Many people have influenced Monica musically, but the two people that have impacted her life the most musically are John Starnes and Vestal Goodman. Seeing John Starnes in concert for the first time Monica came away saying, “if that is what gospel music can do for a person, than that’s what I want to do.”
At the age of 18, Monica moved to Nashville, Tennessee to further pursue her call in the music industry. While in Nashville, she began attending Belmont University as a music business major. One Sunday evening following her move to Tennessee, Monica decided to pay a visit to a long time friend and mentor, Johnny Minick, at the River of Life where Johnny pastors. During that service Monica felt God leading her to make the River of Life her home church. Since that time Johnny and Monica have teamed up to bring about Monica’s debut album.
Monica is inspired by the people who hear her music and are touched in some way by it. She sings to share the message of Jesus Christ with others and hopes that if someone hears it when they are down that the message of the song will lift them up. Monica sings so that others may see Christ through her and that God may be glorified. She may sing an old hymn or a new melody. She may share a funny story or a story that will touch your heart. Whatever it may be her message to you is; “God is always with you. He loves you and He cares for you. All you have to do is call upon His name and He will answer you. Ask and it will be given unto you, seek and you will find, knock and it will be opened unto you. Whatever your need He has the answer. Jesus is the Answer.”
